Orderby ACF field about acf-to-wp-rest-api HOT 12 CLOSED

Using the following URL:
http://localhost:8888/earnest/wp-json/wp/v2/projects?filter[orderby]=client&filter[order]=asc

Changing "asc" for "desc" reverses the order of the projects, however neither order is alphabetical by client, they are just sorted by date.

I'm using this URL, which has a filter filter[order]=asc on the end:

.../wp-json/wp/v2/projects?filter[orderby]=client&filter[order]=asc

But it is still not ordering by client as I was hoping for.

Is there anything else I can try? Do I need to add anything to my functions.php file?
