django-s3-collectstatic

This package includes a management command fasts3collectstatic that is intended for use with the S3BotoStorage storage backend. When checking if a file already exists it uses the S3 etag for comparison instead of the default modified time. This is especially useful when deploying to Heroku, since Heroku changes the modified time when deploying.

The code is based on this Django snippet with some fixes and packaging.

Installation

Clone the Git repository or use pip to install:

pip install git+git://github.com/AGoodId/django-s3-collectstatic.git#egg=django-s3-collectstatic

In settings.py:

STATICFILES_STORAGE ="storages.backends.s3boto.S3BotoStorage"
AWS_PRELOAD_METADATA = True

INSTALLED_APPS = [
    # ...
    'django_s3_collectstatic',
]

Never match MD5 for gzipped file types

It only works for non-gzipped files, as the MD5 is calculated from .read() of original file, and S3 ETAG if for the uploaded file, gzip-encoded if GZIP=True.

I tried to patch for both cases, but had not worked for some unknown reason (for me at least). I tried to hashlib.md5(self.storage._compress_content(source_storage.open(path).read())).hexdigest(), but it never give me the same answer as the ETAG.

Weird. I give up for now. Better luck next coder.

Only works with AWS_PRELOAD_METADATA=True

It still copies over everything if AWS_PRELOAD_METADATA=False, as storage.entries is empty in this case.

I dont know how to solve it yet.

pypi package?

any change of submitting this to pypi? would be nice for deployment purposes.
