forum

a simple forum created using laravel framework

Installation

Step 1.

To run this project, you must have PHP 7.4 installed as a prerequisite.

Begin by cloning this repository to your machine, and installing all Composer dependencies.

git clone [email protected]:adnanahmady/forum.git
cd forum && composer install
cp .env.example .env
php artisan key:generate
php artisan storage:link

Step 2.

Next, create a new database and reference its name and username/password within the project's .env file. In the example bellow, we've named the database, "homestead".

DB_CONNECTION=mysql
DB_HOST=127.0.0.1
DB_PORT=3306
DB_DATABASE=homestead
DB_USERNAME=root
DB_PASSWORD=

Step 4.

Until an administration portal is available, manually insert any number of "channels" (think of these as forum categories) into the "channels" table in your database.

Once finished, clear your server cache, and you're all set to go!

php artisan cache:clear

Step 5.

Use your forum, Visit http://forum.test/threads to create a new account and publish your first thread.

There is no license

License is needed for project

Fix: Ignore purify caches

Right know purify caching are getting in the git repo and must be removed from git

Storage link must be added to step 1 of installation

Storage symlink does not exist in the public folder and because of that php artisan storage:link command must be added to step 1 on the readme file

Feature: add "reputation" support.

It would be nice if users accrue "reputation" points as they participate in the forum.

Create a thread: 10 points
Leave a reply: 2 points
Reply is marked as "best reply": 50 points
Reply was liked: 4 points

Create thread form shouldn't display

if your email address isn't yet confirmed, you shouldn't be able to visit the page to create a new thread. This is annoying.

Fix: Foreign keys throws exception

Foreign keys are not working property with Sqlite

Add test keys for recaptcha

reCAPTCHA has test keys and because of that there is no need to having step 4 in the readme file
