The current state of the Java code generation submodule, although not yet complete, is using pure Java to compute the state updaters. The final version should use renderscript.
This will require the brian2's codegen to output 2 files, the Java class which will handle memory allocation and memory binding between Java and renderscript and the renderscript code file which will handle the state updates.

Java doesn't handle implicit boolean conversion like C/C++ and Python do.
The refractory period check, which is usually modelled as:

not_refractory = 1 * (t - lastspike > t_refr);

could instead be written as:

not_refractory = 1 * ((t - lastspike > t_refr) ? 1 : 0);
