tabtowindow's Issues

Move tab into "next" Chrome window

There apparently used to be an extension called QuickShift that let one move tabs among Chrome windows. However, it's not maintained anymore, and the redux version isn't actually based on it β€”Β it's just a clone of something other extensions do.

What would be really neat is the ability to move tab between already-open Chrome windows. My use case is that I have two Chrome windows open, one on one display and one on the other. I keep stuff that I look at less-frequently on the bottom one. However, sometimes I accidentally open new tabs in that window. The monitor is pretty low, so this kills my neck until I remember to either move the whole browser window (sometimes this is the right answer if it's a tab that I know I will move back when done) or drag the tab to the main browser window manually. Would be neat to do that with a keyboard shortcut.

more flexibility in window sizing would be nice

Hey Arthur :) Only just got around to looking at this - very cool, I have been wanting this kind of thing for quite a while. Would be great if it was possible to configure it so that the original window size is preserved, and also that the new window size can be a clone of the original. Bonus points for making these available as independent options ;-)

Popup to previous/next window?

I am using Ungoogled Chromium 90 on Ubuntu 20.04, not sure if you support it. Anyway, I installed your extension and am able to to tab to popup (which I prefer rather than a new full window), but when I try to do "Tab to previous/next window" it doesnt seem to do anything. It does work if its a window rather than a popup. So I can make the popup into a window, then send it to the previous, but I would rather do it in one step instead.

Is the "Tab to previous/next window" only working for full windows and not popups, or is this a bug on my side?

Mouse support + Previous Display

This "issue" is more of a feature request:

Hello Arthur i recently downloaded your TabToWindow extensions for Chrome. Its great idea but i wanted to ask you if it would be technically possible to add 2 options - if you would have time to consider those and would just give me estimate if its EVEN POSSIBLE given current chrome API... than if you would be willing to add these :D

  1. mouse modifiers
  • keyboard shortcuts are nice but mouse click + modifiers is even faster
  • would it be technically possible to assign simple mouse clicks to the 4 main options

example:

Link To New Window = middle-mouse-click on link
Link To Next Display = shift + left-mouse-click on link

its not a problem if those overwrite/replace any default Chrome mouse shortcuts

or maybe there is some workaround or combination with another extensions that would allow me to use ONLY MOUSE (+ modifiers) to execute commands from your extension's contextual menu

  1. Link to PREVIOUS Display
  • could we have also option to open Link To PREVIOUS Display - the reason i ask i have 3 monitors

(FULL HD) <<< FULL HD >>> (small laptop)

my main monitor is in the MIDDLE (FULL HD) and i cant swap them around because i need the small laptop always on my right side - nowdays when i choose Link to NEXT Display it always opens the link on the RIGHT (small laptop) - thats not usefull for me (laptop is only 1024x768)... as i work on MIDDLE monitor i would need links to open on LEFT side (second FULL HD)... so i guess that would be "Link to PREVIOUS Display"

  • i tried to swap cables and my monitors swapped around (inverted positions) in Windows Control Panel but in Chrome it always goes to RIGHT SCREEN (small laptop)

in meantime i found some pretty cool workarounds to force new chrome windows to jump to my left monitor upon spawning (using the amazing DisplayFusion software) so the PRIMARY REQUEST remains the mouse support... to be able to execute "Link To New Window" with a mouse click...

i know there is SHIFT+left click in Chrome by default, but for some reason the default SHIFT+click misbehaves on our company intranet (it creates new window but also redirects the source page to the same link as the new window) - on the other hand your contextual menu "Link To New Window" works perfectly, without affecting the source page, so if i could execute "Link To New Window" via a mouse click i would be golden....

could you add mouse support to the contextual options in your extension...

THANKS

Need to press shortcut keys twice

Maybe this is a PEBKAC issue, but if it is I'd appreciate any suggestions for resolving it.

I have the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+W to split a tab off to its own window. Some time ago, I found I needed to type that sequence twice to get the tab to detach. I still do. On the second time of typing, it works flawlessly.

Any suggestions for working out what going on?

Prevent focus on close tab button

When focusing on the new window, the focus is on the close tab button. Accidentally pressing the space bar will then trigger the close.

Not sure if this is even possible to change!

Linux resizing issues

My original window doesn't get resized in the manner I chose. Again, testing on Ubuntu-Gnome 14.04

Some debugging is needed in this area.

I could help with this, but I'm not the best with chrome extension development and need some time to learn more.

Tab not maximized when sending to window.

Hi.

I have the extension set up to open the tab in a new window and focus the new window. It is supposed to clone the original window size as well. Shouldn't the tab be maximized if the original window is maximized?

[Feature request] move tab to left/right window

I would like to have new keyboard shortcuts that does what https://github.com/anka-213/chrome-moveTab does. That is, rather than move to the "next" or "previous" window, move the tab to the window to the right or left.
This would, imho, be much easier to use, making it unnecessary to understand what window is the "next"

The tabToWindow extension would also be in an excellent position to add missing functionality to chrome-moveTab, i.e. if there is no window to the right, pop the tab out and put it in a new window to the right (issue anka-213/chrome-moveTab#2)

And finally, you could make it move the focus with the tab.

Next window shortcut bug with app/popup windows

I use Windows 10 with all updates (version 1803, build 17134.345) and latest version of Chrome (70.0.3538.77).

When I have Chrome application/popup window opened among other normal Chrome windows and on some tab I press "window" shortcut and then "next window" shortcut several times it will move this tab among normal windows until it hit the app/popup window. At this point app/popup window will get the focus as if TabToWindow tried to move my tab to this app/popup window. Of course the tab is not moved there because there is no tabs in this window. But now this app/popup window has the focus. And if I press "next window" shortcut again this app/popup becomes a tab and moves to new window.

All this looks like a bug. I think TabToWindow should not try to move tabs to app/popup windows.

[Linux] sizing issue

Yesterday, I had to switch one of my display (factory issues) and ended up with one that works at a larger resolution. So now I have one display working at 2560x1440 (main one) and my secondary display at 1920x1080. Now after I changed the display, I've been having issues with the Alt+Shift+D option (I'm on Linux) to switch a tab into another display. This comes in two forms:

  1. When using it to move from the main (larger) display to the secondary (smaller) one, the tab instead is put into a new smaller window on the main display (looks like it might be sizing it to the secondary display's screen size). It also reacts kinda weirdly to trying to move it using Shift + Super + Arrows right afterwards. It's sort of as if the window thinks it's on the secondary display, but is not? I do get to move it as normally by dragging, or by using Shift + Super + Arrows after I maximize it. I know, weird.
  2. When using it to move from the secondary (smaller) display to the main (larger) one, the tab moves ok into a new window on the main display, but the window is shrunk just vertically, to kinda the size of what it had on the secondary display, while still adjusting to its new width.

I tried using Alt + Shift + Z, and it cycles perfectly between windows on different displays, without issue. Also, using Super + Shift + Arrows works fine on any window, including Chrome, so I'm guessing it's just something to do with the extension. Oh, and my previous main display was also larger than the secondary display, just the same resolution, so it looks as though it's got to do with resolution and not screen size.

Add option to disable context menu entry on pages

I use this extension exclusively via keyboard shortcuts, so it's weird seeing it show up any time I right-click on a page. It would be nice if that could be turned off in the extension's settings.

Windows: windows placed under vertical task bar

"I run my windows taskbar vertically along the left side of my screen, but it seems this isn't taken into consideration when working out the dimensions of the new window (or resizing the original one), so part of the original window gets moved 'underneath' the taskbar, while the new window has a taskbar-width gap to the right of it."

Pop a single tab

First off, thanks for making this, it's useful!

If I already have a window open with a single tab, I can't use the plugin to make it a pop-up it seems. The current workflow seems to require:

  1. Ctrl+T to make a new tab I don't need (2nd tab in window, first tab is the one I care about)
  2. Ctrl+Shift+Tab to switch back to 1st tab since Chrome switches the focus when you make a new tab
  3. Use shortcut to make pop-up
  4. Go back and close the window left with the new tab I didn't want

edit: at least, it seems intentional - maybe there is some limitation where this is necessary but figure'd I'd ask.

return;

Ability to configure if the separated window is focused

My use case for this is such that I'd first separate the window and then throw the window to another screen (using Amethyst). Currently the main window remains focused and I have to switch to the new window first before throwing.

Perhaps this feature could be a new hotkey.

Thanks!

Option to ignore off-screen windows

Would it be possible to add a setting to not consider windows in other desktops?
I use a tiling window manager (Linux) and pressing Alt+Shift+Z makes me cycle through all my windows across my desktops.

Is this possible to do with the Chrome APIs?

Clone maximized state for the new window/popup

Hi,

I have an issue similar to #23 but with "maximized" state of the window (not "full screen" state as it turned out in that issue).

So, when I move a tab from maximized Chrome window to a new window/popup I get this new window/popup in "normal' state (not "maximized"). The extension correctly copies a "normal" size of the original window to new one but it does not copy the "maximized" state. Please add functionality to copy the "maximized" state.

I use Windows 10. Resizing -> Clone setting is set to "On top".

v3.2.0: Hotkeys no longer function on OS X

Chrome: Version 80.0.3987.87 (Official Build) (64-bit)
OS X: 10.14.6

No conflicting hotkeys, last confirmed to be functional on 2-7-20. Let me know if there's any other info I can provide

Remove Scrollbars in Popups

A popup with scrollbars is like material design with comic sans, it's a major design flaw. You use these popus to have a clean view on your content and then you have such big scrollbars all over it.
Since Windows 10 doesn't have any borders anymore (yeeah!, it was time) it looks even cooler when you remove the scrollbars.

And c'mon who scrolls with scrollbars?

Automatic focus for new window?

It's kind of jarring to keep focus on the same window. Might it be possible to make it so that it automatically focuses on the popped up window?

Chrome crashes when using tabToWindow in incognito mode

Hello,

I just installed tabToWindow on chrome v. 36 installed on Win7Pro 6 64Bits.
The extension works fine in normal mode, but chrashes chrome in incognito mode.

Here is how to reproduce:

  1. Open a tab in incognito (ctrl+shift+n)
  2. search anything
  3. Open a new tab (ctrl+t)
  4. search something else
  5. use tabToWindow (alt+shift+w)
  6. close one tab (ctrl+w)
    => kaboom...

I know that the last release of the extension dates as far back as 2013, anyway, if you're still working on it, a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the extension !

Change description in Chrome Web Store

I didn't find your addon at first and tried out some other e.g. Open-as-Popup and TabToPopup.

Both are not very well made and a joke compared to yours. But I didn't find yours because you don't have the keyword "Popup" written in it, you call it "Pop Tab" and so most people can't find it.

So in short: I suggest you to change the description so that people who look for such an extension, which moves the current tab into a popup, can find it. In my case, I wanted to save space and furthermore I like the minimal UI of the Chrome Popups.

Tab to Window does not resize original window if maximized

Description

When executing the command Tab to Window the original window is not resizing and aligning next to the window which has been docked away.
It works when the original window is not maximized but in a resized state.

[Feature Request] Duplicate to [window/popup]

I'm using your extension right now and just want to say thank you for your hard work. I also would like to make a request if it's possible. If possible ,could you add "Duplicate to new window in the next display" function? I'm currently using 2 extensions to achieve this but would love to have only 1 extension running.

tabToWindow not working

I downloaded and installed your extension but it is not working. Please can you help out?
