URL for the 1 minute version leads to a 404 page; I'd like to use that version. I'm having issues where my connection is up and down (http://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&l=100&q=Wrayth). Using testmy.net I've been doing 5 minute intervals but am limited to 50 tests. I'd like to do more frequent than 10 mins, over a longer period, to generate more data for my ISP.

What does the program do with the downloaded files it uses to test with?

I have for example 50Mb/s speed in the network (how speedtest.net says), but why speed test logger says that I have 20-100Kb/s speed???? how can I see my real network speed in the app?

Im not a geek, the download test files on the internet don't come with http: addresses, they are buttons on web sites.

How do I uninstall?

Hi all,
after installing my speed logger it remains in an offline state. I did change the download file to a custom file, actually I tried several different ones. The result stays the same, the logger claims to be offline. Obviously I am not as I am posting this message at the same time.

And no, it has nothing to do with the file size. For one I have set the interval to 1 hour, second I have also chosen a small file (100kB).

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated...

Is it possible that 'Speed Test Loggger for Windows' could monitor for and log internet disconnects / reconnects please?

In this 'uptime.png' screencap from my router's GUI, it shows that around 11h30m ago my WAN connection reset, which puts this disconnect/reconnect at around 21:46 last night.

In this 'loggger.png' screencap you can see that around that same time, loggger didn't respond or feel the need to record anything!

This would be a very handy feature to have so that us users can capture this information and pass it on to our ISPs for further investigation!

How do I get the application to show MB/s not KB/s

How do you decrease the scale on the graph so you can see the difference in 2 mb/s and 6 mb/s?

Any chance of adding in the settings or perhaps a command line option to start logging automatically?

I have added the app to the Startup Folder of a PC on the network. All I want it to do is sit there and monitor internet quality. This PC also has Net Uptime Monitor doing ping tests. The ping program starts automatically when I power on the PC and it boots up. All want to do is power on the PC and get it to do its thing. It's rather annoying to have to remote into the PC or use its mousepad and display and click the Start Logging button in Speed-Test-Loggger. Just pressing the power-on button is much easier and really all that should be necessary.

Will your app keep the PC awake? Or do I need to set energy saver never to sleep?

I have replaced my test file and I definitely have internet right as I was testing.

Please help

Trying to track my companies internet connection to show the provider. However the logger keeps
stopping after about 10-12 hours.
My sample rate is 10 minutes. Is there a limit on the size of the log file?

I changed the setting to have a different URL for the custom download test files, and also from bits/s to Bytes/s, but every time I reopen the app, the settings keep reverting.

I installed the programm and run it. It reports "No Internet Connection", no speed and gives just "Error". I do have a pretty normal internet connection.
I tried another test file and changed the time to 5 minutes.
Non of this worked.

Any suggestions?

I'v got very strange timings in the csv file. I started the tests about one a clock (13.00) but the hours reported suddenly jumped to 15, then 14 and back to 15 and so one. Column "Index" and the graph looks strange too. See attached file. This is the on-minute version. Any ideas?

Hi, is there a configuration setting to change the Speed (mb) scale of the graph, the max appears to be 9MB, and it is not adjusting to the results of the test.

Thanks for the possibility to use the utility. I want to use it to verify continously my download speed.
How ever the program stops working because of memory problems. Computer 16GB and speed-test-logger is the only active program. What is going on? Win10

Im getting downloads at about 1/2 what other online speed tests are reporting? Any thoughts?

The logger opens and works, but does not minimize to Task Bar and disappears from desktop. It is still shown as a background process in Task Manager, but there's no GUI. Clicking on the desktop icon does reveal the app, but opens another instance that of course is not running. How can I see the first instance I started?

Change default graph timescale from 10min to 1h

the test file "http://loggger.com/bigfile.zip" is no longer available. My question is how to make a replacement file, what does it look like. I suspect a list of usable url's and a test fie of a certain size.
Can some one advise so we can construct one of our own to use with this program

it would be nice if the graph would allow for a pan and zoom over the full history of the logfile

20 seconds after pressing start the app just closes and after the status bar flickerd thousand times with the download speed. Is this normal? Why is the name also "1 minute edition" is this a scam app?

Test Now and the recurring test I set up show "No Internet Connection", and "Invalid URL" in the Status column.
My WiFi is working fine.

The software does not work as expected, displaying a message "No Internet connection", and failing to display valid test results in the log pane. My internet connection is however fine. See picture splw1.png.

My first and only guess is my network configuration does not get properly detected. I use WiFi and a VPN over that WiFi; the DNS on the WiFi is disabled to prevent DNS leaking. See picture splw2.png.

Help please

Just a few questions/comments about the CSV file. I hope they aren't too redundant.

1. What is Index?
2. What are the units of Time (U)?
3. I assume that Time (S) is the beginning of the interval.
4. Is Speed(B) the total number of bytes transfered in the interval? To me, B means bytes and b means bits. Is that true here?
5. In Speed(S) assume that 10.476 mb, for example, is megabits/second.
6. In Message, I assume that Error means that there was a problem connecting to the server's URL or some error during the connection.
7. In Message and Status, does Offline mean that the SpeedTestLogger was not running or that the network connection was down? I'm guessing that SpeedTestLogger being down results in missing rows in the CSV file and Offline mean that the network connection was not available.
8. I assume that IP Changed refers to my External IP Address.

I'd appreciate any help any one can give me.

I've figured out a lot of this myself:

2. Time (U) is seconds since the beginning of some epoch. Which one doesn't really matter.
3. Speed (B) is the number of bytes transfers in the interval.
4. Speed (S) is Speed (B) times 8 and divided by the length of the interval in seconds and given the units of mb/s.
5. I think that Offline means that the logger was running, but could not collect any data. I'm not sure what it means when Offline is listed twice (in Message and Status).
6. I still don't know what Index is.

Any comments or help on the remaining questions would be appreciated.

but the internet connection is great. maybe the app does not see my internet provider? what do I have to do?

I'm using http://ipv4.download.thinkbroadband.com/1GB.zip as my download, and before the first run completes the application crashes.

When I click Debug, the detail I get is:

"An unhandled Microsoft .NET Framework exception occurred in speedtestloggger.exe [49220]"

It would be awesome to build in email alerts that trigger on tested speeds below a defined value. To prevent spamming an inbox in the middle of the night, you could also have a setting to define how many emails to send in X minutes. For example (all values in mbits):

Any way to make this log more frequently? Have an issue where internet is cutting out frequently but only for 30 seconds ish, and sometimes isn't being logged.

Have downloaded and run Standard and 1-Minute version.

Have specified various custom download URLs in Settings.

Performs well but bombs out after 30 minutes or so. See Screen Image 1 below.

Clicking "Test Now" button no good. Stop/Start no good either. See Screen Image 2.

Changing custom download URL in Settings no good.

Stays bad for hours like over-night testing. Never resolves itself. Notice time scale on the screen images.

Toggled "Successful Tests", "Status Changes" and "Error Messages" buttons. That fixed it this time but doesn't seem to fix it all the time. See Screen Image 3.

Rebooting PC seems to fix it all the time.

No other networking issues at the time. Am running PingPlotter and Net Uptime Monitor concurrently.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Grrr. While I was writing this post it bombed out again. This time toggling the buttons didn't fix it. See Screen Image 4.

Have included PingPlotter in Screen Image 5 to showing spikes of Speed Test Loggger activity and good connection otherwise.

Speed Test Loggger seems to think there is no Internet connection.

Have just gone into the settings and specified a different custom download URL from Internode. Was using one from Inspire. This time it did work. See Screen Image 6.

Furthermore it remained working for two hours or so. Then there was an offline/online glitch but no Invalid URL Error condition. Speed Test Loggger recovered and continued testing. See Screen Image 7.

Speed Test Loggger seems to think there is a connection problem with Inspire but it's a fairly reputable web site. Perhaps the program is a little too harsh in determining if there is a connection issue.

This is interesting... I've been noticing that the ADSL line has spells of high packet loss and jitter when the DSL Modulation setting in the router is set to Multimode or ADSL2+. Less so when set to ADSL2 and virtually none when set to G.dmt. During speeds of high packet loss the download speed crawls along at 200-300 Kbps which is not fit for purpose. When changing the DSL Modulation setting the connection is lost for a minute or so. Firstly Speed Test Loggger Status went to Offline but then it reported an Invalid URL Error. After the router connected again Speed Test Logger automatically recovered. This indicates that the issue of Speed Test Loggger going into the Invalid URL Error condition and not recovering is caused by using the Inspire Custom URL. Strange.

Just finished a successful overnight testing.

All good except for an annoying glitch that's always been with my laptop/PC. See Screen Image 8. Notice for some reason the LAN card momentarily drops the connection when it comes back from whatever power-saving state it goes into after prolonged inactivity. I've noticed this before. I have everything set to constant performance mode. The laptop is always powered on and in its docking station. The only power-saving feature set is to turn the screen off after 15 minutes. Have just checked Power Management setting in my LAN driver. The "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was ticked. I presume that the computer didn't turn off the LAN because the logging operations and all other internet activity as far as I can ascertain remain fully operational. Just in case this setting is causing the glitch I am going to clear it. If the glitch continues then the only other thing can the the display driver or the OS or BIOS. But seeing Speed Test Loggger is proven to be able to recover from this glitch I'm happy.

Hi, I am new to this. You write "Replace the default "http://loggger.com/bigfile.zip" entry with the URL of an existing test file.". OK so I found plenty of files for this purpose. They are downloadable. How does this work? Will the Website/Server automatically offer the file? I can enter a URL but it needs to be a site that serves the file automatically to Speed Test Logger. I have turned off Windows Firewall and Malware bytes but still No Internet connection.

The Speed test program gives wildly different speeds than two other speed measurers - why is this?

I have it perform a speed check every 10 minutes, between this time it is not idle, but using significant CPU. Process Explorer shows 5% of my total cpu being used (4 CORE, 8 hyperthreads i7-4810MQ).

The IP Address displayed in Loggger is 107.x.x.x [ US domain ]
My external (whatismyip) IP address with VPN off is 58.x.x.x [ AU domain ]

[ Address does not change when I turn VPN on. Speed changes of course ]

How is Loggger getting my local IP address and why the difference please?
