Though I'm not sure in what page layouts the current Zotero image would ever fit in... Maybe we just want to remove it? (And if we didn't, the link should probably be to the person's profile page on Zotero, not zotero.org.)

The Zotero logo is intended to be for the embeded version on external pages only.
At the moment the logo is simply hidden with CSS in the integration version (https://github.com/tnajdek/zotero-publications-integration) but it would be great if it were a config option. Linking directly to a Zotero profile sounds reasonable to me.
