Hello @DhrRob , I'm already running the tests with the local cast, it will soon be available on YTMDesktop.

@Alipoodle There are a lot of requests that have been marked as duplicates citing this thread. A lot has changed since 2019, including native casting on the youtube music web interface. Some of the threads were simply requesting communication about the status of the feature.

Is this being worked on in any capacity?

For my use, this is a pretty significant shortcoming of the app. I understand the platform's lack of inherent support, which is unfortunate, but that consideration doesn't change my own circumstances: almost all my music listening at home is done over an array of chromecast devices, and almost all my listening away from home is done via my phone and bluetooth headphones. Given these things, the current version of the app -- really everything since Google once again shot everyone in the behind by shutting down the perfectly good Google Play Music -- isn't something I can use any more, although I used the old app constantly; the only time the app makes sense for me is if I happen to be listening on my laptop and not any room or zone speakers for some reason.

Whether the best solution is to polyfill the presentation api, or implement the chromecast client API more natively and low level, I don't know, but I sure do hope that this is something that is able to get attention. This app is far better than the web experience, and I miss being able to use and rely on it. 😢🤗

Is there a workaround for this? (e.g. casting from the phone, but controlling music from the desktop app)

I made an attempt to cast but I am not satisfied, I will return with the implementation of a companion app

I was trying to do this integration, he finds the chromecast but when trying to listen to the music there is always an error, the YouTube music logo appears on the screen but it gets stuck...

Have you committed your code?

@adlerluiz You may already be aware, but this is the position that GPMDP took on this matter:

(As far as I can tell, Youtube Music still has no support for casting from the web.)

Until a native solution is available, Windows users can cast laptop/desktop content from Chrome:
Cast audio from Chrome - Chromecast Help
... and I have been using this solution for Mac/Linux users:
Mkchromecast

I would prefer to only cast the music I am listening to, instead of all audio... but this is a workable solution.

No.when try to cast audio from desktop the sound quality drops to a minimal bitstream. Sounds awful. But connect with an app and it's perfectm

Are you referring to your experience on Windows? Mac? Linux? And can you be more specific about what you mean by "connect with an app"?
More details might help others navigate the issue.

I second this comment. Most chrome-based browsers have implemented casting youtube music to chromecasts quite easily. It doesn't look farfetched anymore

Since this issue has gotten a little bit of attention again I'll post an update here about this. Currently with v2 chromecast isn't being worked on but I have looked into it. The way casting works on YouTube Music is simply a tab cast. Electron is missing the presentation api which prevents chromecast from working and the reason why we just hide the button. Is this something that would still be wanted as it may be simpler to try and polyfill but no effort has been looked into it or would efforts rather be focused to try to emulate what YouTube Music's mobile client casting is doing? This would require far more work and effort with no promises it can be done. I know there's plenty of chromecast solutions that exist out there for electron or node but they would need to be adapted to work with this application. Some of them even after small testing have trouble working at all or broken in other ways.

I found this JS implementation of a command-line caster tool: https://github.com/Reggino/chromecaster. I am not a programmer (I'm a complete noob acttually), but perhaps this could point in the right direction? Thanks for your work anyways. This is a great application nonetheless
