A little closer to a solution maybe, when i changed the width on flexslider to a fixed px number the problem went away,

.flexslider {width: 320px; margin: 0 auto; padding: 0;}

from flexslider.

Sounds like a CSS issue, rather than something on the plugin end of things.

If your slider or relative parent container aren't conforming to a proper box-model, it could cause issues. Setting a width on the slider element would have been a remedy for this, as you saw. As long as you are resolute in your CSS declarations, you shouldn't experience any issues with offset nonsense.
