On further investigation, during launch of the template an EC2 instance is created and appears healthy.

An Autoscaling group is created, there's 1 instance in it and it's reporting as healthy. On the cloudwatch tab via the console, there is a message:

Group Metrics Collection is not enabled for the following Auto Scaling groups: ClamAV-dev-2-ScanAutoScalingGroup-{REDACTED}

Not sure if the template is expecting metrics to be enabled.. Either way the Cloudformation template times out after about 30 mins and fails with the error.

Finally the note in template.json#L22 about the subnet either being public or a using a VPC endpoint - I've set up an endpoint in the console for the subnet I am using, do I need to supply this in some way as config when launching the Cloudformation template?

Hi @RobotRobot I suggest that you create a VPC based on one (I suggest the vpc-2azs) of our templates here: https://github.com/widdix/aws-cf-templates/tree/master/vpc
And than launch the S3 VirusScan into those Public Subnets. Let me know if this works for you.

Otherwise you can dive into the logs. Therefore you need to visit CloudWatch Logs in the AWS Management Console.

Thanks - that's great. The VPC creates 4x subnets, A+B public & private. Which should I choose for the value of SubnetsParameter? All or just one?
