There are milestones for song and instruments assignment, but I can see how this could be helpful. There are a couple of possibilities: This could either just be a text field, or it could hook into the existing email functionality and display messages sent through that method somewhere on the page.

Currently a text area wouldn't be hugely useful for doing very much - since it's not a CMS there's currently nothing like TinyMCE, so validation would strip out meaningful markup tags.

Let's handle the signup status notes as a separate issue.

The downside to hooking into emails is that it might be confusing with changes to song order and the like.

We might be talking about different things. Are you wanting songs to just be a plaintext area or database driven? You might look at the related Milestone/Issues for that and see it's headed in the right direction?

My thought is that the song database isn't currently up and running. As a work around, until other developments happen, a text box can be used for showing set list and other "notes" (ie. when to be there, other users that will be there that aren't showing up, who's preaching, who's leading, what kind of set they want, like if it's going to be acoustic driven that week, ect) without having user have to go back to an email. Or if emails are sent prior to a user signing up. It's not an ideal way of doing it, but it's a workaround until other development is finished.

Moving forward, after the songs db is fully implemented, we can use it to make comments about the service. (Describe what's going on if it's a special service or reasoning for a short set, or explanation that songs are currently missing) so the feature won't be depreciated moving forward.

Hooking into email could be confusing, if there's multiple emails. If you change your mind about something end-users will get confused on what action or song is currently accurate, so I don't think it's ideal.

This shouldn't be hard to pull off either way. Let's keep it simple for now add email hooks later on if it proves desirable. Email wouldn't be difficult - just adding a few javascript functions.
