BSD might be too permissive. You said GPL was too restrictive for proprietary apps. Maybe LGPL? Or what are the others? You know more about these than I do.

I like LGPL and Apache. You mentioned the former so lets go with that.

Sounds good to me. Let's prepare the dist for public release. From that point on we should make sure to limit all development work to a dev-master style branch (or "unstable" etc).
Unless you want to create a separate public release repo?

Definitely no separate repo - I agree that branches are vital.
Before release I think we should do license and package install. I'll look at the latter tomorrow.
