I think a long term solution for this would be using Xwayland once our build of Mir has support for Wayland instead of maintaining Xmir which was already tad buggy from last time I was able to use it

Alan's doing some tremendous work and I believe this could be looked at once we have our core components in a more recent build

Same behavior, the app crash directly when starts.

I've tried it with gedit and an SDL game. It looks like it's fixed now.
However any toolbar menus or drop-downs show up as new windows instead of overlays... after one bug comes the next haha

Also confirmed by the QA group. While the browsers are libertine-problematic in general(?), the Libre Office crashing seems to be device specific.

Flohack74 avatar Flohack74 commented on July 21, 2024

Do we really going to focus on libertine at the moment (for this device)?

from ubuntu-touch.

NeoTheThird avatar NeoTheThird commented on July 21, 2024

Not right away, but we should soon. We might want to wait for 16.04 though... Fixing libertine will be a lot of work and it might be too much to fix it for legacy. But we need better compatibility with desktop apps as we want to make a convergent OS!

For me, I got first time ever libertine working with Krillin using the UBPorts image.

Firefox works (well, slowly as the hardware is limited, but works). I tried to install a SIP client. Qutecom installs and starts on the phone. But even on the desktop I don't get the configuration done that it connects to my SIP account. Linphone works on the desktop but when I try starting it after installing in a Libertine container on the phone, the app crashes.

So maybe it is only some applications crashing in Libertine. But even that e.g. Firefox works on my Krilin in a web container is more than was possible on the Canonical image before.

Don' t know if i can add this here, but will try :D. I have the same problem and in every log for desktop application (like application-legacy-container-identifier_firefox_0.0-.log) I got this:

Can someone retest this now with 16.04?

Flohack74 avatar Flohack74 commented on July 21, 2024

Can you tell us which app? I got some reports in QA team telling me that e.g. LibreOffice works for them.

I might be missing something, but Gnome Terminal and QtCreator which I installed via the Libertine section in the settings are crashing here on my Nexus 5 with OTA-4. XTerm works.

  • gedit works fine
  • Libre Office crashes with similar errors
  • Firefox crashes (see comment below), I can confirm that
  • Chromium crashes

I'd like to report that Firefox also crashes on start. I've attached a screenshot.

However, gedit works fine.

I'm on hammerhead, running OTA4.

Firefox crashing is a problem in Firefox itself.

Device: Nexus 5
Channel: devel
Build: 2019-W17

It's been a long time since last I tried any of this so first, I connected the device to my laptop and removed the apps installed in my Libertine container working from the command line. Then, working on my device, I did the following:

  1. I ran 'Update container' from the settings menu on the device, submenu 'Manage Libertine container'. Took a while.
  2. I installed firefox and vlc by hitting the '+' at the top of the page, choosing 'Enter package name or Debian file' and specifying both apps in turn, one at a time.

Now both are installed and appear in the Desktop apps scope. They appear when connected to a TV in converged mode, but they both crash when I attempt to launch them. The same happens when I try to launch them on the device, not connected to an external monitor.

Firefox gives an on screen error message:
