Fair point, we should add labels to the examples, even if they are hidden by default (so screenreaders have something to go on). Is there anything else I missed? What needs to be tested manually?

I haven't done manual testing for this, but trying to navigate it with VoiceOver or even ChromeVox would be useful. Or simply trying without a mouse.
Good to pick off the low hanging fruit though which WAVE is good at identifying. Drupal & jQuery's (latest) Autocomplete both have good examples of WAI-ARIA usage. That's also quite important for assistive technology.

I'm not planning on doing starting anything ARIA-related in the near future, however we'd happily look over pull requests for ARIA support.
