This function is more or less a part of other social media apps, for example Instagram. If you use an email to create an account, they will lock it as spam after less than thirty minutes until you give them a phone number to track you with. I think Twitter could implement this similarly, except instead of asking for a phone number it just deletes the account immediately. This would surely increase competitiveness and bring advertisers back to the platform.
