Env var keys must be one underscore or letter followed by zero or more underscore, letter, or digits. That's how unix env vars work.

That said, if you can walk me through how that key is used in your code inside the docker container, in terms of what env vars key it looks up to get that value, I can consider making changes to support this use case.

Thanks for the quick reply @rogusdev . Turns out I was being lucky/stupid that somehow my docker container loaded that config in my test env because when I tried it again locally it only loaded the simple config (i.e. MyConfig=MyValue
).
Having found this article, it explains that what I need to use is a double underscore (__

This is loading it directly through docker-compose, you just set the environment
config like this and then in the startup code in Program.cs just call builder.AddEnvironmentVariables()
and it'll load the config so that it can be accessed in the system.
