Hello,
I'm encountering the same problem, but on Manjaro Linux (kernel 4.19, KDE as main desktop). But here is the catch : it works pretty well at the Office, but not when I'm working remotely. Not sure if it can be related to VPN stuff (should not, as Skype Business, at least under Windows), can work without being connected privately to the Office.
It's installed from AUR : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pidgin-sipe
Also, desktop sharing fails to start. But aside from that, text conversations and status updates works as expected. Not sure where to ckeck for details about how it's working :/
