Hmm. I don't have access to an ARM device (at least not one running a GNU/Linux instead of Android). This may be a Python bug, since pads are supposed to have the 6-argument form but I'm sure that's just a wrapper to the C library that may have changed.
I've written a small patch here that will try..except this particular call and fallback on 0 arguments, but it may have further issues with ncurses calls. If you can clone the git repo and apply this patch, I'd be interested in how far you get...

Patch applied. New error is " : No such file or directory " . I'm guessing it could be a Python bug also, since I used the normal packages. I will have to try on a VM and see if the same issue pops up.

Same original error on latest Ubuntu on my netbook. I used standard packages and it installs fine. Must be a bug on Debian derivatives.

I'll fire up a VM and check it out.

Yep, this is a Debian bug. Their Python configuration is incorrect and as such ncurses pads won't work at all, in particular "pyconfig.h" has "WINDOW_HAS_FLAGS" unset which is incorrect. Filing now.

It propagated through the debian bug system and is online now: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=687581

I can confirm that using the python3.1 package from squeeze work, and it has this flag set.

Should be fixed in 3.2.3-6 if the Debian bug is to be believed. Anyone want to confirm, or do I need to install a VM again =)?

I haven't tried the version on my box, but I see in the official .deb that pyconfig.h sets the flag correctly. So, in principle this should be OK now.

Confirm, canto-curses starts on Debian with python-3.2.3-6 installed.
