That first part I can't help. The use() method (and other property modification methods) are guaranteed to run on each render, so the rules of hooks are not actually broken. But ESLint doesn't know that.

The second point is more important. That should work. I'll look into it.

I've released v2 which addresses these issues.

The .props, .use, .set, and .map methods are gone. Property manipulation at that level is no longer supported due to significant problems making types work correctly. The createStyled factory now accepts the useTheme hook as an argument, which configures a theme for all styled components which use the returned styled function.

const StyledDiv = styled('div')`

For setting default property values on styled components, you can use the new propDefaults static (not to be confused with React's defaultProps, which is deprecated for function components).
