The email list are not correct, everything in regard of Apache is
deprecated.
When I fixed the readme today (Java version) I dispatched an email to the
other committers about the status.
Personally I perfer asynchrous communication like email/issue or a phone
call. Explaining via chat seems difficult, I have to stop my work flow
immediately and those conversations are hard to find via Internet search.
I observed that Google opensource projects often refer to stack overflow on
questions, perhaps this is an option..

Various people have said that it's best to just use the LibreOffice development mailing list [email protected] for ODF Toolkit as well.
There are likely going to be a lot fewer ODF Toolkit related mails than LO related mail, so this is probably not going to bother the LO developers but i'm not sure if the ODF Toolkit developers aren't bothered by all the LO mails :)
Anyway, the list is at https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice and it's all we have right now.

Michael (Stahl) is willing to use any messenger that has an IRC Bridge and Gitter seems to have one and I am open to test new things.
Does any other has suggestions for Gitter / messenger usage?
