Possibly "when called as a constructor without arguments"?

That sounds fair, but then we are missing a case in the list (called with arguments)... I understand this section is non-normative (?) but it still looks weird

Object() is the same as new Object() too, though.

  • Object() and new Object() (when new.target is any value): either creates ordinary object or performs coercion, depending on how you view it
  • Object(v) and new Object(v) (when new.target === Object): performs coercion
  • new Object(v) (when new.target !== Object): creates ordinary object
