Many WMs use the following buttons config for this:
Hide MOD4, XK_m,
Unhide MOD4|SHIFT, XK_m,

Mod4 + m is currently bound to maximize, which I personally think is
more useful than showhide, and Mod4 + Shift + m is bound to monocle
mode. You are always free to change the keybinds to your liking, but I
prefer it the way I think it makes the most sense in the grand scheme.

Well, I would expect MOD4, XK_t, to be maximize, but this doesn't matter, I can always change the keybinds myself.

So, are you accepting this features? It's one of the only missing things so I can migrate to frankenwm once and for all.

What feature exactly are you talking about, splitting show and hide to
different hotkeys? That would be possible without much effort.

splitting show and hide to different hotkeys

Exactly. And also having an order.

For example, if you HIDE window1, HIDE window2 and HIDE window3, if you then UNHIDE, it will unhide window3, if you UNHIDE again, it will unhide window2. Then, if you HIDE window4 and UNHIDE, it unhides window4 and if you UNHIDE again, it unhides window1.

I think I cover all cases with that example. Tell me if it's confusing and I will try to word it better.

So you basically want a (probably desktop-specific) hide-queue which
tracks the windows for organized minimizing. That actually sounds pretty
useful to me, so I might consider building something like this. But I
also have to say that it might take a few days for me to choose the best
way to accomplish this without producing loads of tracking bugs.
'Pushing' windows down this queue is pretty easy as long as I can keep
track of it.

Glad to hear that! Don't hurry, I will be waiting

I just merged and pushed some changes which implement the so called miniq, a simple desktop-specific filo to keep minimized clients, as well as a new default config/manpage. There might be some wonky interactions with other features, have not had the time yet to test all possible combinations of modes/windows/features/..., but it should be working correctly in most, if not all, cases.
