TypeError: must be _socket.socket, not socket about stripe-python HOT 4 CLOSED

This is a bug in the app engine dev server (should work fine if you deploy the code).

This is a very difficult bug to fix (Google are aware of the issue: https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=9246) but I'm going to have a stab at it this week and hopefully a fix will be ready before the next release.

Thanks Daniel. Ouch. I can confirm that the work around works and I can now interact with Stripe - yay! It's an intimidating workaround but once you get all the paths worked out easy enough to implement.

Thanks Daniel for helping out with this. We use may be able to detect the GAE dev environment and skip the ssl import there (with a warning). That would avoid having to go through this workaround. Would that be helpful?
