I too am curious as to why they've opted to use API 17 opposed to 16. By using android API level 17 (Android version 4.2.x+) you're neglecting 34% of all android users. You can regain 20% of this is your product was functional on android SDK version 16 (Android 4.0.x+).

The minSdkVersion is actually 7, so this should build on any SDK >= 7, the targetSdkVersion, however, is 17. If you are noticing it not build on an SDK < 17, let us know!
