This can in fact be what you want. the only point is to use the same directory here and in the autoloader described just after. You could clone in a foobar directory and configure the autoloader to look in foobar/lib and it will work well (but this name is bad for other reason of course)

The main reason is that users, who are following this documentation, would not have problem to add a different extension vendor. For example beberlei's doctrine extensions also uses same naming of vendor directory. It would be best to separate it by vendor prefix.
