Hello JQiue,
the preset “Nerd Font Symbols” is explicitly meant to use symbols from “Nerd Fonts”. As the name implies, it needs a “Nerd Font” to be installed and activated.
There are two other presets, that would fit your requirements:

I have confirmed that I have installed "Nerd Fonts" but do not know how to activate it

You need to select (any installed) Nerd Font as font in your terminal application.
