@daniel-dressler strictly speaking you'd have to change the license here and ask all previous contributors to explicitly state that they release their contributions under the license.

@daniel-dressler normally you set up a CLA but that's probably too messy for what's desired here. It might suffice to just ask everyone to explicitly say that they release the code under XYZ license before merging.

As for license, MIT is probably the least controversial.

I don't think asking everyone will be practical. The implicit license in the readme should be enough to justify the common usage. This means ignoring the license issue but I cannot see a more realistic option. =\
