I got the same error. xcrun is misconfigured (i don't have Xcode installed, only command line tools and homebrew).
I got the installation working by calling
CC=cc rake
instead of
rake
This bypasses xcrun.
Hope it helps.

I had the same error. Xcode was out of date so I updated it and installed the latest command line tools and that fixed it. Hope that helps.

Updating my command line tools in Xcode solved this issue for me.

Command-T has been replaced! To fully remove it, I recommend blasting your repo and re-cloning.
git clone https://github.com/square/maximum-awesome.git && cd maximum-awesome && rake
from maximum-awesome.
