This happens to me too sometimes. I dont beleve its an internet issue because i have great internet.

I've found, since posting, that backing out and resuming playback fixes it for a while though it often starts doing it again. I guess we can only expect so much for free

Um no. The app relies on websites like GGA, KKA, MP4UPLOAD, etc. to provide anime episode links. The app is scrapes from those websites and gives the links to the user. When the video buffers alot, it means tons of users are using the same server causing network traffic. There are tons of server available in the app so use it.
