The metadata generation filter is now positioned before the SAMLEntryPoint. Position of the filter in slot before PRE_AUTH_FILTER should guarantee that metadata gets generated before any other SAML component which might rely on its existence and thus solve this issue.
The automatic metadata generation is only meant to simplify development, for production a stored metadata file should always be used instead.
Unfortunately it is necessary to have access to the HttpRequest object in order to generate the data as there's no other uniform way to determine server URL and context path. This really makes refactoring difficult and seems to imply that the metadata generation needs stay in a filter.
