I would expect the higher level consumers of such resources maybe to try-catch inside their finally block if necessary. This would be consistent with e.g. Jdbc usage.
In this case it actually won't be necessary (probably) because the exception is always a runtime exception, and is more or less guaranteed to be unrecoverable. I propose we resolve this as Won't Fix, unless there is a more concrete failure scenario.

No scenario forthcoming so setting to Won't Fix. The close() method will usually be called in the DisposableBean.destroy() of ResourceLineReader anyway, so exceptions would be caught and logged by Spring.
