Sounds good!

A few people have mentioned this before and you're mentioning it now, so maybe there's enough demand to spend time on doing something like this. It sounds like 2 features would be necessary to make it useful:

  • the ability to ask the playbook to generate self-signed certificates for you (well, it does something like this already for Synapse's federation (8448) port.. but we would need support for certificates for riot or any other future domain)

  • the ability to use different certificates - it could be the self-signed ones generated by the playbook or others, which you're managing yourself somehow

Or.. maybe we don't need to handle generation of self-signed certificates. If we go without that, it would mean that you either use what the playbook provides(Let's Encrypt integration) or you point the playbook to certificates you manage yourself somehow.
