That is a tricky subject.
I would like to avoid having to redefine our own Function, Consumer, Supplier... and rely on the JDK ones. I agree that sometimes it's cumbersome, but it also says that it may fail. Also, using custom classes have shown limits and require using "method reference" sometimes. It decreases readability. In some cases, it also introduces compatibility issues with API using JDK ones.
What we can do is adding a wrapper utility:
Multi.createFrom().item("hey").subscribe().with(function(s -> {
TimeUnit.SECONDS.sleep(1);
System.out.println(s);
}));
Same with supplier, consumer...
The implementation would just wrap the computation in a try/catch/finally
I'm not sure about the name as it's simple, but at the same time hide the fact it may throw exceptions.

A short example. This code won't compile:
Multi.createFrom().item("hey").subscribe().with(s -> {
TimeUnit.SECONDS.sleep(1);
System.out.println(s);
});
While its analog in RxJava does.
