Thanks for this, very useful. I will integrate it. I think having it at the top of the page would be nice, but maybe additionally at the bottom as well? What do you think?

I'm generally of the view that it's best to have one place to go so that users don't have to decide whether they need to go to the top or bottom to make an edit.
We can put it at the bottom of the floating table of contents (on the right). That way the edit button will always visible when someone comes across a typo or mistake.

@ferrouswheel can you please clarify in which file(s) I should implement this, and where exactly in the page? Following Ibby's suggestion, I guess it would be in the right corner between the menu and the "All Docs" link.

You'd need to edit theme/_layout/default.html
so it applies to all our documentation.
