Tested with 2.2.2 (from apkpure. f-droid version not ready yet).
Still not asking for root permission.
Cannot open /data (or contents not shown).
You could test it on terminal:
Try
ls /data
--> permission denied
and try
su
ls /data
--> lots of output

Can confirm that 2.2.2 (F-Droid version) dont show root content nor ask for root rights.

For me the only way I can see files in the root directory '/' is to move the apk to /system/priv-app/ so it gets system privileges but even then it can't see in /data or modify anything.
Using version 2.3.1 from F-Droid on LineageOS 14.1
