It's possible you've chosen a lower resolution stream than what the amcrest app is using. Looking on this site depending on the model you have, you may be able to specify a higher resolution.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about the amcrest camera specifics, so I can only speculate and tell you to play around and/or Google for Amcrest RTSP resolution.
Make sure you're using the omxplayer (not ffmpeg) for local playback for the highest resolution and make sure the resolution of the feed you're using is the same or higher than the size of the module.

Also, try playing the stream back using VLC and see if you notice the same discrepancy. If you do, its the camera end, if not, it's the module end and we can do further troubleshooting.
