The mail documentation pages have some great help when it comes to this. http://octobercms.com/docs/services/mail
The goal is to create mail templates for each event listed above, and then make them send at those points in term. Register is sort of handled in the sendActivationEmail() function in components/Account.php, but the default template is pretty bland. I would say recreating the template to be better would be the best idea.
I already added default mail template files in views/mail/
