Unluckily we can't do anything when the remote repositories are unavailable. Usually if you try later (when the repository is up again) the problem goes away. We might created warmed up images thus there will be no need pull the packages from a remote repo.

A good idea the warmed up images.
But i'm sure the problem is related to the versions of host OS / Docker.
I just used the latest beta version of coreOs and all is OK.

Have you tried around the same time with the CentOS or the Ubuntu based image? When we see this exception inside the container - that the HDP repository is not available then it is not available from my host neither. Not sure how a Linux distribution (e.g. CoreOS) can have any effect on a remote RPM repository being unavailable ... we provision large clusters on all major cloud provider (this image is used by Cloudbreak) and different OS and regardless of the Linux distro we came across these problem.
