Thanks for the pointer: Spek, Kotest, and plain JUnit5 seem to be the options here, the latter also provides extensive support for assertions and comes with a kotest-assertions-compiler extension, for mocking MockK looks interesting although its future seems a little unclear.

So, this is happening - these tests are now failing for some reason (after I merged #18).
They say that expected program doesn't match the compiled one, but I checked them and they look identical to me.

I'm able to reproduce. I see that some types changed; that isn't visible in the string representation. I see that you made changes to 4 toString methods, if I revert those I see that all but two tests fail, now with some meaningful difference in the string representation. I will have a look at those a little later...

With regards to conciseness, this test case is not a good representation of Spock; I need to find a better solution for instantiating the expect IDL program and types; I'm open to suggestions, regardless of the language used...
