I ended up handling errors in the handler function. its actually relatively clean
e.g.

fun create(req: ServerRequest) = validate
        .request(req)
        .withBody(User::class.java) { body -> ok().body(Mono.just(body)) }
        .onErrorResume { t-> internalServerError(t) }
}
