The original thread reported a different problem (the paint editor continued to respond to key presses even when the scripts tab was active), which appears to have been fixed. The second post describes this issue (the Stage starts key-press hats when the paint editor is open).

However, the paint editor doesn't have to be focused to respond to these key events—the arrow keys will always move the selected object when the Costumes tab is open, even if the Stage or some other object has been clicked. It will ignore key presses only when a text field is focused.

Should we allow the paint editor to be focused/unfocused or should we simply ignore key presses while the Costumes/Backdrops tab is open?

Let's clarify when the paint editor will receive key strokes. How about only when something is selected or for undoing (ctrl-z)? There are probably more scenarios. @ntlrsk what do you think?

We're going to close this one and can reopen if this comes up in the community again.

I just ran into this. It'd be nice if arrow keys were ignored by the scripts when a costume is selected (and/or the paint area is focused). I have a sprite that does a lot of processing when left-arrow is pressed and it's becoming annoying to edit costumes
