The !
symbols indicate that there were errors when calculating the new cells. To see the errors, navigate to one of the cells and run error-cell
in it (either by hitting Space
and typing error-cell
in the command prompt, or by the shortcut z
Ctrl+E
). It will open a new sheet with a traceback for the error in that cell.
The error is probably due to the datetime
module not being imported. That would be fixed by adding the line import datetime
to .visidatarc
in your home directory.

Thanks for the detailed version information. This bug has been fixed on the develop branch (#2299). Can you try the fix out (5e611e3) and confirm that it fixes the issue for you?

Thank you for the quick response.
I installed the dev branch with
pip3 install --upgrade git+https://github.com/saulpw/visidata.git@develop
and did a quick test:
- the error no longer appears
- but : the resulting column is created empty. (see screenshot)

Thanks for the detailed steps to check ... and fix it. It is working now. The "error-cell" command is quite handy to know :-). (I was not aware this is necessary. In my old 2.10 installation, I don't have a .visidatarc and still it is working. )
Thanks again for the quick help.
