Just for clarification:
You thinking about letting the window occupy some place ontop of another window or decoration and being some kind of transparent, and when the window is getting focus untransparencies it so one could use it.

Okay, I had a look into the gtk library docs and there seems to be a property we could use for that. But with the restriction that you have to have a compositor running in your WM. I suggest most of the user don't have that. But I will put on my todo.
