(Also realise I coded up a correlation matrix, but not a covariance matrix. Did you want covariance specifically?)

Both are useful (and provided by GetDist)
To go into a little more detail. Imagine I run an MCMC chain, and generate the covariance matrix for that first chain. I can then use then covariance matrix to inform the stepping procedure for subsequent MCMC runs.
