Does this also happen in the demo example or only in your app?
from audio_service.
I can't build the demo example for some reason. Gradle crashes. So I can't check.

Could you maybe upload the APK?

I think I've seen this Gradle issue before which only affected the "example" subdirectories of flutter projects, and there seem to be other Flutter developers online who have also experienced the problem. I can't remember the exact solution but I'm sure it had to do with deleting some cached directories or files. Doing a flutter clean is a start, but after that if you still see some build artifacts around, delete them.

I'm stuck. I tried deleting all the build caches and intermediates and Gradle's still crashing. I can't find the answer online either.

I'll try copying the example out of the plugin directory and adding the plugin manually.
EDIT: It still crashes.

On my system, there is a directory called example/android/.gradle
which is not deleted when you run flutter clean. It looks like this:
example/android/.gradle

Do you have something similar? If so, try deleting it.

I tried it, it doesn't help.

Oh! Gradle's using JDK 11. I need to run it with 8 or something.
from audio_service.
Yep, it's working now. I'll check if the issue happens in the demo app.

Hmm, it's fine in the demo. I need to do some debugging.
from audio_service.
This is really weird...
After restarting the service, all transport controls seem to be broken except stop. When I press stop, the service notification goes away but the audio keeps playing.
In my stop callback, I stop the audio and complete the future, one line after the other. So why would the audio keep playing? I actually suspect the issue is with the audio player plug-in now. I'll close this when I'm sure.

The problem is with the audio player plugin.
