I have a couple suggestions. The first might just be a typo in the reprex, but you need a closing single quote in the conditionPanel() condition:
conditionalPanel("input.sidebar==='tab_number1'")For the conditional panel to work, though, I think you'd need to give sidebarMenu() an explicit id, and the conditionalPanel() should be a directly contained in sidebarMenu() rather than appearing inside a menuItem()
