Thanks for the heads-up.
I agree that a small image size is always desired.
However, given that these images are usually only downloaded once and then cached in a prod k8s install, a few MB do not make a huge difference in this case.
I'll just observe new changes from your side and adapt my Dockerfiles accordingly.
The move to the bionic RSP build already comes with an OS bump then and might clear up some build dep issues :)
Simplified VSCode functionality is also a nice benefit.

Hey @pat-s ! Glad to hear this has been helpful!
We will definitely take a look at moving to focal at some point. In the meantime, though (and for a couple of other reasons), we have moved to installing all of RSP instead of using the rsp-session
tarball. This means the images are a smidge larger, but it saves us some of the packaging weirdnesses that we have had in the past with the rsp-session
tarball. We also get some benefits for the new VSCode work. We plan to take a pass at rm
ing some of the stuff that is not needed that we include as a result to reduce image size (let's be real - these images are already huge anyways).
I wanted to mention in case it is useful - the "install all of RSP" pattern should be easier to adapt to focal, I would think!

We will be adding Focal images as part of #305.
