This one seems like something we could implement:
"Search papers in Mendeley or PLoS based on geography or genes."

And this one (WE WOULD HAVE TO BE ABLE TO CONNECT WITH FUNDING DATABASES THOUGH):
"Funding Suggestions Based on Mendeley Library

The idea

A service/app that provides me with recommendations for funding calls / grants / fellowships / scholarships as well as upcoming conferences based on the contents of my Mendeley library.

This could be a desktop app, but I envisage this would be more useful as a web service which sends me periodic emails with recommendations. Ideally, I would like to be able to select which groups in my Mendeley library the recommendations are based on.
How it will make scientists' lives easier or science more open

Would allow me to spend less time searching for suitable grants / conferences
Tech specs

Data sources: Mendeley Libraries of individual users, various funding websites
Platform(s): Any platform that Mendeley runs on, Web

Isn't such a service/app out of the scope of an R package? There is no exhaustive, easily queryable list of grants or conferences. There are far too many in the life sciences alone.

I like the geographic search but what would we query? Mendeley papers are not geotagged or references as such and unless someone does it by hand (read the paper and enter location info somewhere) how would we do it? Unless I am missing something here.

These seem doable to me:

Create an easily embeddable, dynamically-updating list of PLoS or Mendeley papers from a particular lab or institution that researchers can put on their websites. Suggested by Sébastien M. Crouze: seb(dot)crouzet(at)gmail(dot)com
