I checked yesterday on that URL and saw two files. A folder and a zipped folder. I didn't have time to download the zipped file but the folder did not contain the xbmcbackup.val file. The addon will not recognize a folder as a backup archive without this file.

I downloaded the zip file at that URL that was there now and noticed that this file does contain the xbmbackup.val file. Does this archive work to restore from?

Hello Rob

Thanks for the reply.

What I do is back up kodi to a local location and let it create the backup
zip

Then I will ftp that zip to my site

Once uploaded to the site I will change the back up path to the ftp link,
it will show the zip file but when restoring it will say it can't the temp
file or it will restore far to quick and not actually restore anything

Any suggestions??

When I tried pulling in your file to examine it I had to try 3 times, it timed out the first 2. That was just through a browser. Could be the addon can't get the whole file, or if it does it's corrupted in some way. Have you tried not zipping it? I know more bandwidth but maybe do a subset of what you need as a test as a regular folder.

What is a skin error? Like an error notification from within the gui? Can you upload a debug log to pastebin or something to look at?

Thanks for the log. I see what it is doing - error on creating C:, which exists already. Now to find out why. I'll attempt to recreate this.

Ok, I tried a bunch of things. I tried pulling zipped archives and non zipped archives via an http address just like in your log. In all cases they worked and the files restored. I did get the Error can't create C: message but those didn't seem to harm anything. All attempts at logging where that was coming from didn't show anything, some underlying Kodi thing I guess.

I looked through your log again and I did notice a lot of errors "CCurlFile::FillBuffer - Failed: HTTP returned error 404" when trying to pull files from your web space. I really think Kodi is just not getting the files, maybe there are intermittent connection issues from the http server?

Strange if you don't mind me asking what http hosting did you use to test,
may consider moving hosting

Thanks

I host my own stuff via an in-house web server. I have a lot of other services running so it's most efficient for me to do this. I have a really good pipe though as I run some gaming servers off this as well, never had an issue with download/upload speeds.

Just as a test maybe try creating a folder somewhere that you know the download speeds won't be an issue. I'm thinking something like a github pages repo where you can then have the files posted to io.github.com. Not something you could use in the long run as it will take a lot of manual work, but might work for testing (assuming github allows directory listings on their http server, I have not tested this).

I use serversfree.com and am very happy. Free with 10gigs space and 100gigs bandwidth. Make sure you do zipped backups and type in the address correctly example: ftp://username:[email protected]/KODIBACKUP/LINUX/
Note the forward slash at the end and also my folders are typed uppercase. This will then work for you
