We are not using linting in the CMakeLists.txt because it is "poor-mans" approach to do linting. The proper approach is to separate build/testing and liting stages to increase clarity of issues. I have been used linters integrated into CMakeLists.txt and don't want to go back because you end up scrolling logs of 30k lines for each small linter error (not much fun).
We are following architecture introduced by ros2_control where liting is done in a separate workflow (check ros-lint-workflow) and not only that, but it is also done on each and every commit by integrating it into .pre-commit-config
.
And yes, we will target REP 2004. It is true that we are lacking of automatic testing currently. We gladly accept any contributions in this direction. Nevertheless, we are currently focusing on manual, integration testing because this enables faster development for now.
